The first solo show by @sophiedherbecourt

From 16 - 27 March 2023 at the Galerie Au Roi (75 rue de la fontaine au roi, Paris 11).

Pathos of things is the first body of work by Sophie Dherbecourt. Comprising 12 original canvases ranging in size from medium to large, it offers an introspective journey from the white desert of depression to the warmth of resilience. It questions our relationship with others through a contemporary vision of healing.

This is an immersive exhibition in which the viewer is free to travel around the canvases. The exhibition space at the Galerie Au Roi will be divided into different zones, each defined by a dominant colour (blue/pink/purple/ochre).

In this setting, Sophie Dherbecourt will also be accompanied by artists who will be reinterpreting some of her works during the exhibition (poetry, music, floral and sculptural installations), with several works being conceived as part of a total artistic reflection.

About the artist

Sophie Dherbecourt is a painter based in Paris, starting her career as an art director before learning oil painting on her own in 2018. Fascinated by the sensuality of bodies, she questions them as a language reflecting society and an emotional transmitter: direct, tender and sensitive mediums for our way of communicating with the world, as well as foundations bearing witness to our intimate relationships with ourselves and others.

Her style, with its art deco and neoclassical references, deconstructs the lines of bodies and genres to make them architectural and timeless. Her approach to colour is cathartic, dreamlike but always inspired by reality, and Sophie Dherbecourt finds in it a powerful, aesthetic softness that transports and soothes.

She sublimates the moment and draws the plural identities of our society, ensembles and groups like contemporary mythologies in a mannered cubism.
